“Cindy Cowan is a successful producer who has her life in balance with a wonderful inspirational relationship to boot.”

IMG_2621 1Cindy you are the epitome of balance and I love what you have been doing to empower women. As a producer, are you working on anything that we as women should see?

The thing I strive for the most in my business world is balance. Once before, I had a film company that was very successful, we garnered almost every award from Emmy’s, to Golden Globes to Oscars..but I lost myself in the process. I worked tirelessly for 5 years without a single vacation, and started to believe my own self importance..If I didn’t do it, it wouldn’t get done. My Boyfriend at the time came second to my company. The result was that I was very successful, but not very happy. Years later, I retired to become more of a girl again., I just wanted to get back in touch with my feminine side. When I came out of retirement 3 years ago…it became mandatory, that this go round, my personal life would be first and my business life second. I still work very hard, but weekend are my own and there has to be a time at night when I cut off…also, I learned how delegate, which is important.

I am working right now on a variety of things that range from 2 Biographical movies that will hopefully be nominated next year for awards, a very female empowering Thriller, and even a reality show. We are also about to get into scripted TV…everything I do portrays girls in a positive light.

CindyCowanI’ve always put the relationships before career myself, but have learned that balance is the key to perfect harmony. Your happiness shows through and shines as I’m seeing clearly in you! I love that you are portraying women in a positive light. I know your boyfriend is in the entertainment industry, is it hard to work together in the same profession?

My boyfriend is actually not in my business, although everyone thinks he is….He is a contractor and furniture designer/builder. He keeps getting approached to model/act or do his own show. But we have been treading slowly here….it’s sometime tough to have 2 people in the same business, under the same roof Saying that, he is a natural, so he will most likely be involved in some capacity soon

Devin: You guys make an adorable couple and he has the good looks for this business. Looks like a perfect match to me!

You have gorgeous hair, any tips for women with long hair?

My hair is my obsession…I have very curly hair which tends to run my life. I have tried every product out there and actually have my hair dresser in my will (Roy at L&R salon). My tips are, find the best products for your hair type….My obsessions are Davinis shampoo and conditioner..I love this brand Moroccan oil spray shine Bumble and Bumble leave in cream texturizer
and twice a year, I will Brazilian straighten my hair with a ” 0.”..meaning it’s more about a deep condition and taking some of the frizz out, then going too straight

I always thought your hair was naturally straight. I have very curly hair too that can be a total pain. Thanks for the tips here! I’m all about giving back to the causes you are passionate about, what causes are you most passionate about?

Love to give back and am very passionate about a few causes. My heart belongs to a non profit charity called Little Kids Rock. I am the West coast chair of this amazing cause that fights to keep the arts in schools through music. We are dedicated to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to unlock his or her inner music-maker. That is Little Kids Rock’s mission, and over the past 13 years, we have given more than 325,000 under-served schoolchildren across the U.S. access to fun, engaging, Modern Band music classes and brand new instruments at no cost to the students, teachers, or school districts. Little Kids Rock trains public school teachers and donates all of the instruments, curricular resources and support they need to ensure that their kids receive the right to rock! What makes Little Kids Rock different is that they do more than just donate instruments like guitars, drums and keyboards; they build lasting music programs that focus on teaching kids to perform, improvise and compose the popular music genres that they already know and love, like rock, pop, blues, hip-hop, country, reggae and R&B. We are currently in 25 states and are growing every day.

CindyCowan1I love these kids and these teachers!! I encourage anyone to get involved.

I am also a part of Grassroots soccer. Grassroot Soccer uses the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize communities to stop the spread of HIV. This charity recently became part of the Bill and Melinda Gates community and, I just joined the Thirst Project. The world’s leading youth water activism organization. www.thirstproject.org which has a goal to give every child clean drinking water in the future.

Giving back is everything to me. It truly keeps me going and makes me happy.

That’s so awesome Cindy! I know you have always had a love for music. Also children and our environment is the future, we must protect them. And what good is success without giving back and seeing what it can do for others and our planet as a whole? What are your goals for the new year?

My goals for the future are to continue making a difference… to work hard on both my personal life , as well as my professional life. and to try to touch someone in a positive way…every day. To me…the key to happiness is to find your inner light, do what makes you smile, and bring love and laughter to others. So far, this year is off to a great start!!

Well it’s obvious and I thank you so much for taking the time to share with us here. You are truly a beautiful inspiration!
